1. Who We Are
These terms are between you and Butter Brothers Moving Co. ("Butter Brothers," "we," "us"), a household goods mover based in Austin, Texas. TxDMV No. 009998897C · USDOT No. 4245790. TxDMV consumer helpline: 1-888-368-4689.
By using our website or booking a move, you agree to these terms. Your written estimate and moving contract for your move also apply. If they say something different from this page, your written estimate and contract control.
2. Using Our Website
- The words, photos, logos and designs on this site belong to Butter Brothers. Please don't copy them for business use without asking us.
- Please give us true, complete information in our forms, and don't misuse the site (for example, by trying to break it or sending spam through it).
- Our blog posts, guides and checklists are general information. Every move is different, so ask us about yours.
- We link to other sites, such as our scheduling software's customer portal, our referral program and Google Maps. Their own terms apply there, and we aren't responsible for their content.
- We work hard to keep the site accurate and running, but we can't promise it will always be error-free or available.
3. Online Quotes
An online quote is an estimate based on the information you give us: your addresses, home size, items, stairs, elevators, parking and anything special. The more accurate your information, the more accurate your quote.
If your move turns out different from what you told us (more items, extra stops, stairs or long walks we didn't know about, or items that weren't ready), the time it takes and the cost can change. Before your move, we send your written estimate for you to review and sign, along with the Texas consumer rights information described in section 11.
4. Booking and Your Deposit
- To book, you sign your estimate and pay a $100 deposit. The deposit goes toward your final bill. Long-distance moves may need a larger deposit, and we'll tell you in writing before you book.
- Our team reviews every booking. If we can't make your move happen for any reason, we refund your deposit in full.
- Once your move is confirmed and on our calendar, the deposit is non-refundable.
- You sign and pay in our scheduling software's secure customer portal. Card payments there are handled by its payment processor.
5. How Hourly Billing Works
- Local moves are billed by the hour, with a 2-hour minimum.
- After the minimum, we bill in 15-minute increments.
- The clock starts when our crew starts moving your first item, and stops when the truck is empty at your new place.
- You stay in control of the time. If you want us to move only certain items, just tell your crew lead.
6. Payment
You pay at the end of your move. You can pay by card (a card processing fee applies) or by Venmo or Zelle (no fee). Your deposit comes off your final bill.
7. Your Part
- Give us an accurate inventory. Tell us about everything you're moving, plus stairs, elevators, long walks and anything heavy or unusual (pianos, safes, items over 300 lb).
- Parking and access. Save a spot close to the door for our truck at both places, and reserve elevators or loading docks if your building requires it.
- Disconnect gas appliances before we arrive. We don't disconnect gas lines.
- Be ready. If you're packing yourself, have boxes packed and closed when the crew arrives. Empty safes before moving day.
- Keep small valuables with you: cash, jewelry, important papers, medications and laptops.
- Be there, or have someone there who can make decisions for you, at the start and end of the move.
- Loading your own truck or container? On labor-only jobs, you are responsible for securing the load.
8. Items We Don't Move
- Open liquids
- Flammable or combustible items (for example, propane tanks, gasoline, paint thinner)
- Firearms and weapons
- Gas appliances that haven't been disconnected
- Grand pianos and hot tubs
Not sure about an item? Ask us before moving day.
9. Liability Coverage
- Basic coverage is included at no extra cost. Under basic coverage, our liability for loss or damage is limited to 60 cents ($0.60) per pound, per article.
- More coverage is available. Ask us about higher coverage when you book. You choose your coverage level when you sign your estimate.
- Any liability coverage or agreement we offer is not insurance. It is something different from an insurance policy. It limits what we owe you if something is lost or damaged.
10. Damage Claims
- File within 90 days of delivery. A shipper must file any claims against a household goods carrier within 90 days of the delivery. Send your claim in writing to info@butterbrothersmoving.com or call (512) 676-5375 and we'll tell you where to send it.
- We acknowledge your claim within 23 days of receiving it.
- We pay, deny or make you a written offer within 90 days of receiving it. Most claims are settled much faster, often within 1–3 days of receiving everything we need.
- You may request mediation through the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) if you don't agree with how we resolve your claim.
- The claims process is also explained on the TxDMV website and in the Texas Administrative Code, Title 43, Section 218.61.
See Damage Claims for what to send us.
11. Your Rights in Texas
Texas law gives you rights when you hire a mover. With your written estimate, we give you the TxDMV information sheet "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move in Texas." You can also read it on the TxDMV website.
Questions or concerns about a mover? Call the TxDMV consumer helpline at 1-888-368-4689.
12. Photos and Videos You Send
When you send us photos or videos of your home and belongings, you let us use them to quote, plan and complete your move, and to help with any claim. Please try not to include people or personal documents in them.
13. Limits of Our Liability
Our responsibility for loss or damage to your belongings is set by the coverage you choose (see section 9). Our website and its general information are provided "as is." Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under Texas law that can't legally be limited.
14. Disputes and Texas Law
If something goes wrong, call or email us first. Most problems are solved with one conversation. For damage claims, you can also request TxDMV mediation (see section 10). These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas. Any court case will be handled in the courts of Travis County, Texas, including small claims (justice) court.
15. Changes and Contact
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here and change the effective date at the top. The terms in place when you book apply to your move.
